Clouds over Pipers Creek

Oil painting of cumulonimbus clouds over a low horizon.
Though I intended to paint a landscape, it was the approaching storm that caught my attention.  The distant hills were never going to stand out from the cloud.

Sheds at Rosebery Hill, Pipers Creek

Oil painting of machinery sheds surrounded by trees with distant hills.
For the sake of composition, I cropped some farm buildings from this scene; in other words, I had to shed a couple.

Islay House, Woodend

Oil painting of part of a Georgian-style house with a fence and a tree with autumn leaves beside.
Islay House takes its name from the southernmost Hebridean island, which in turn lends its name to the Scottish whisky region most noted for its peaty liquors.  Like all fine alcohol, Islay whisky should be enjoyed in moderation: it can be a short road from peaty to repeaty.

House on High Street, Woodend

Oil painting of part of a house viewed from the front with a hedge and a road in the foreground.
This was painted quite rapidly due to the vagaries of the weather: the sun would occasionally shine before disappearing behind stormy clouds.  I was never quite sure if the sunlight would endure or if it would end.

Essendon Croquet Club

Oil painting of an Edwardian-era weatherboard building with a verandah and green roof.
Playing croquet brings a whole new meaning to the term "going clubbing".

Quince

Oil painting of a quince with two leaves attached
A quintessential quince, essentially

Pumpkin, Pipers Creek

Oil painting of a pear-shaped pumpkin on top of a fence post with trees and hills in the distance.
A pumpkin on a fence post, which is clearly better than an offensive post about a pumpkin.

P. S. This painting will be on display as part of the Victorian Artists' Society Autumn Exhibition.

Campaspe River, Kyneton

These trees are back by poplar demand.*

Oil on canvas board, 8" x 10"

* The same can likely be said for this pun: I'm sure I've used it before.

Trees at Sunset, Pipers Creek

Oil painting of silhouetted trees on a hillside at sunset.
Admittedly this isn't my best painting, but it was always going to be crepuscular.

Milk Jug with Persimmon

Oil painting of a small white porcelain milk jug beside a persimmon fruit.
Dis-persimmon: Someone who disperses things or people over a wide area, e.g. a milk man (or milk person).

Pumpkin with Willow Pattern Vase*

Oil painting of a Willow Pattern vase beside a pear-shaped pumpkin.
Pumpkins are orange, vases are blue;
More original rhyme is long overdue.

Oil on canvas board, 10" x 8"

* After posting this picture I was duly informed that what I had painted was a ginger jar and not a vase; it seems I'm a ginger infringer.

Antique Bottle with Mustard Pot

Oil painting of an antique green bottle beside an earthenware mustard pot.
There once was a bottle and pot,
Who rode forth to old Camelot.
At a table they found
Several knights sat around
Eating ham and jam and spam a lot.

Bathroom Tap

Oil painting of a 1950s-style chrome tap attached to a partially visible lemon-coloured basin.
In a bid to bring a more contemporary appeal to my painting, I thought I'd attempt to tap into the Zeitgeist.  It seems I only got as far as the tap bit.

Tomato in Old Fashioned Glass

Oil painting of a tomato in an Old Fashioned glass.
This is certainly not the first time I've painted a tomato in combination with an Old Fashioned glass, and as such, one would be forgiven for thinking that the depiction of such objects might become automatic.  Indeed, inside every automaton is a tomato.

Banana in Glass Vase

Oil painting of a banana in a tulip-shaped glass vase.
According to Wikipedia, banana plants are a source of fibre for high-quality textiles, not to mention the dietary fibre commonly associated with the fruit.  This picture documents my misguided attempt, based on the aforementioned information, to produce fibreglass.
