This gateway forms part of a restored twelfth-century priory (the marvellous la Madelène in Provence) and was painted during a workshop run by well-known daily painter Julian Merrow-Smith. Julian's sage advice and skillful demonstrations were, not unlike this scene, a gateway to new ideas and approaches.

Windows at La Madelène, Malaucène, France
The steadily moving afternoon sun necessitated relatively swift execution--you might say that in order to paint this scene I was afforded only a small window of opportunity.
