Baynton Road, Pastoria

Oil painting of a sealed road leading down into a valley surrounded by trees, with a background of misty rain.
The morning was marked by persistent misty rain, so I eventually surrendered to the inevitable and found a dry spot from which to paint the sodden countryside.  After about ten minutes the sun came out.  It may be the only time I've ever been disappointed by the appearance of our radiant friend.

Schoolmaster's Residence, Old Pipers Creek School

Oil painting of a Victorian-era weatherboard cottage beside a large oak tree in autumn leaf.
A residence without a resident (as one might gather from this slightly dilapidated building).

Miniature Vase with Banana

Oil painting of a miniature blue and white porcelain vase beside a banana.
Vases are white, bananas are gold; as a pattern of rhyme, this form's getting old.

Still Life with Plastic Corella Pear

Oil painting of a plastic Corella pear with a bottle, a brass pot and a piece of white cloth.
Class exercise in still life featuring what appears to be a snotty hanky.

Carrot with Old Fashioned Glass

Oil painting of a carrot beside and Old Fashioned glass.
Glass and carrot: somewhat preferable to a ghastly claret.

Sauce Jug with Lemon

Oil painting of a blue sauce jug beside a lemon.
Switzerland's Lake Toma--according to Wikipedia--is generally regarded as the source of the Rhine.  This painting is generally regarded (or by me at least) as the sauce of the rind.

Royal Children's Hospital, Royal Park, Melbourne

Oil painting of a small eucalypt with a modern hospital building in the background, illuminated by the late afternoon sun.
When I was a child, I imagined that the Royal Children's Hospital was a palatial hospital for royal children.

Shower Tap

Oil painting of a cold tap attached to exposed water pipes, as part of a shower unit circa 1940.
My painting has been a bit hot and cold of late.

Woman with Red Scarf

Oil painting of a woman with grey hair wearing a red scarf.
As I painted this picture, I found myself becoming too wrapped up in the scarf, so I had to do an about face.

Red Pepper with Milk Jug

Oil painting of a red pepper beside a white porcelain milk jug.
Peppers, such as this red pepper, are of the nightshade family.  Similarly, this milk jug has a certain amount of shading and was painted at night.

Plastic Skull

Oil painting of a plastic skull facing the viewer, almost.
The choice of subject on this day was a no-brainer.

House near Mouth of Erskine River, Lorne, Victoria

Oil painting of a two-storey house with two gabled roof sections.
After two days of painting of the ocean, I decided to face inland and paint a picture of a house--I needed a sea change.

Beach near Stony Creek, Lorne, Victoria

Oil painting of waves breaking on rocks on a beach, with gentle cliffs beside.
It was an overcast and rather forlorn morn in Lorne.

View from Teddy's Lookout, Lorne, Victoria

Oil painting of waves breaking against a rocky shoreline with a roadway winding around a gentle cliff.
I'm not entirely sure why teddies are advised to look out at this location, but it might be because of flying art supplies (this was painted largely with one hand on the easel in an attempt to prevent it from blowing away in the wind).

Onion with Blue Castor Oil Bottle

Oil painting of a brown onion in front of a blue castor oil bottle with a label.

When people talk about the layers of an onion, I always picture oversized poultry. If not oversized, I suspect the castor oil may come in handy.

Garlic Bulb with Copper Pot

Oil painting of a miniature copper pot beside a bulb of garlic.
Like this bulb of garlic, I like to remain fully-cloved in public--it hides my pot.

Dessert Spoon

Oil painting of a desert spoon on a chopping board.
I thought it would be easy to clean my cutlery, but I spoke too soon; er, I mean, I had to soak two spoons.

Teacup with Apple

Oil painting of a white teacup with yellow rose decoration beside a red apple.
Apples are red, teacups are white; my paintings are small and my poems are trite.

Plastic Dahlias and Roses in Vase

Oil painting of plastic apricot-coloured dahlias and red roses in a blue and white porcelain vase, with a mug on one side and a copper vase on the other.
Dahlias painted by nightlia (over four Thursday nights, that is).

Banana in Cider Glass

Oil painting of a banana upright in a cider glass with a green background.
An unblended banana smoothie (otherwise known as a banana roughy).

Torpedo Bottle in Tea Towel

Oil painting of a green flat-bottomed torpedo bottle stood upright and partially wrapped in a white tea towel.
It may not be entirely obvious that this is a torpedo bottle because the tapered bottom is mostly obscured by the tea towel.  The tapered bottom is not to be confused with a tapir's bottom, which in this picture is entirely obscured.

Mushroom with Silver-Plated Jug

Oil painting of a Swiss Brown mushroom beside a small sliver-plated jug.
This blog was supposed to be about daily paintings, but it seems to have mushroomed into a site about word play, and I can't seem to stop the juggernaut.

House Backs, Parkville

Oil painting of the backs of several Victorian-era double-storey brick buildings.
This caption is hardly going to bring the house down.

Onion with Small Vase

Oil painting of a brown onion beside a small blue and white porcelain Chinese-style vase.
I'm too lazy to devise yet another pun relating to onion and a vase; instead I'm simply going to veg out and thus fail to urn my readers' admiration (or condemnation, depending on one's attitude to the highest form of humour).
