Lemon with Small Glass Bottle

Oil painting of a lemon beside a small, long-necked glass bottle.
Squeezing yet another pun from a lemon is an uphill bottle.

Tomatoes with Biscuit Barrel

Oil painting of vine-ripened tomatoes beside an antique biscuit barrel with a flower pattern.
Some might say I'm prone to the occasional odd still life arrangement, but this one takes the biscuit (and evidently replaced it with tomatoes).

Twilight, Rosebery Hill, Pipers Creek

Oil painting of trees in late autumn with a distant blue hill in fading light.
Painting in the half-light took me out of my comfort zone, to an area I call--the twilight zone.

Plaster Cast: Bust of Costanza Bonarelli by Bernini

Oil painting of the bust of a young woman.
Though I've cast about for a good pun, I'm going to have to cast the idea loose.

Onion with Blue Castor Oil Bottle

Oil painting of a brown onion beside an antique blue castor oil bottle with label
The leek is a close relative of the onion, while castor oil has a similar relationship with a leak of a different kind (usually unwanted).

Persimmon with Silver-Plated Jug

Oil painting of a persimmon beside a small silver-plated jug.
There once was a persimmon fruit,
Who met an old jug, destitute.
Asked fruit, "Are you poor?"
Said jug, "I'm not sure--
I can pour, and that's absolute."

Mandarine with Small Vase

Oil painting of a mandarine beside a small blue and white Chinese-style vase.
There once was an old mandarine,
Who played quite a mean tambourine--
With a vase on the bass
They brought down the place
And left in a stretch limousine.

Riverview Hotel, Tarwin Lower

Oil painting of a building with a red pitched roof and a verandah in sunlight.
This painting was a bit of a struggle, so I'm not sure if it will pass the pub test.

Beach at Walkerville South with Wilsons Promontory

Oil painting of a rocky shoreline with distant water and mountains.
The sea appeared to be waving at me, but I couldn't be shore.

Pear with Earthenware Bottle

Oil painting of a green pear beside an earthenware bottle lying on its side.
I tried to paint a bottle and a pear,
But soon it had me driven to despair--
The neck was wrong, the fruit was weak,
And did I mention bad technique?

To wit, I've found relief in simple verse,
To counter daily painting's basic curse--
That some are poor, and some are deft,
Some paintings full and some bereft.

Cast Aluminium Sculpture by Chris Petersen

Oil painting of a small metal sculpture of girl in a skirt skipping.
Although I've painted this sculpture many times, I'm still learning the ropes.

Lemon on Saucer

Oil painting of a lemon on a blue and white porcelain saucer.
Despite being squeezed, the lemon refused to divulge its saucers.

Petite Liqueur Bottle with Banana

Oil painting of a green onion-shaped bottle with a cork, beside a banana.
La petite liqueur et la grande banane--or as we alliteratively say in English, the little liqueur and the big banana.
