Daily painting exercises in tonal realism since February 2013; adorned with terrible puns since 2014.

Garlic Bulb with Chilli Jar
There once was a bulb and a jar,
And each wished to play the guitar.
But as neither had fingers
A certain doubt seemed to linger
Of finding the right repertoire.

Manna Gums beside Pipers Creek Tributary
This scene appears tranquil despite the blustery conditions under which it was executed. My father suggested the difficult circumstances might potentially lead to a blow par painting; if this is true, I'll simply declare it a draft.

Old Stables at Rosebery Hill, Pipers Creek
Following heavy spring rains, the main dam at my parents' farm has been steadily filling almost to the point of overflowing. However, as the water has approached the shed in the picture, it seems to have stablised.

Garden Featuring Atlantic Cedar at Rosebery Hill, Pipers Creek
Despite the apparent sunshine, my painting activities had to be abandoned due to an unexpected deluge. As such, it might be compared to Charles I of England: while one had his reign cut short, the other was cut short by rain.

Alfred Crescent, North Fitzroy
'Twas rather pleasant on the crescent where the light was iridescent but its beauty evanescent.

Banana with Copper Pot
Be wary of stepping on banana peels or you may come a copper.

P. S. Something seemed familiar about this image, and a quick dip into the archives revealed this: Copper Pot with Banana. In the immortal words of Britney Spears, oops, I did it again.

Egg on Vase
The surgical removal of all or part of a gland is an add-an-egg-to-me, whilst the surgical procedure for male sterilisation is a vase-egg-to-me.

Teapot
Every time I attempt to paint this teapot, I'm reminded that it's particularly difficult. It's a strained exercise that drives me up the spout.

Mandarine with Earthenware Jar
A jar turned on its side is a tip jar, whilst a mandarine adhering to its expected orientation is an orange order.

Milk Jug with Onion
The skin that forms on top of milk is known as lactoderm (or at least that's what Wikipedia tells me), whilst biologists apparently refer to onion skin as a tunic. That I rely on the internet for facts proves that my knowledge is only skin deep.

Rue Saint-Séverin, Paris
Dear neglected blog,
Although I have devoted some time to painting on my two-month European holiday (including a wonderful week-long workshop with Julian Merrow-Smith), there's been little worth posting, and this latest update is no exception except I thought it was high time I added something.
This is a very quick sketch done from the balcony of my Rue Saint-Séverin hotel in the Latin Quarter of Paris. I can't help but wonder if a Latin quarter should be expressed as I divided by IV or perhaps five solidi (one quarter of a libra). The latter is a pun about a currency which is no longer current.
