Red Pepper with Silver-Plated Vase

Oil painting of a red pepper beside a silver-plated vase.
Vases are silver, peppers are red;
I'm up writing couplets when I should be in bed.

Persimmon with Sauce Jug

Oil painting of a persimmon beside a dark blue sauce jug.
Sauce jugs are blue, fruit I think not;
Unless there's a blue fruit of which I forgot.

Oh, blueberries.

Merri Creek at Coburg Lake Reserve

Oil painting of a eucalypt beside a creek with small rapids.
Within the reserve, I worked without reserve, keeping nothing in reserve.

Self Portrait with Extended Tongue

Oil painting of the head of a bearded and bald man with tongue extended
At first I was unsure what to say about this painting, but at last I found my tongue.

House at Rosebery Hill, Pipers Creek

Oil painting of an Edwardian-era house with a palm tree in front.
The rapidly fading winter light caught me by surprise, leaving me with a half-finished painting.  I suppose that makes this a halfway house.

Portrait of a Grey-Haired Woman

Oil painting of a woman with grey hair wearing a dark-coloured coat.
Painting portraits can sometimes be a test of the grey (subject) matter.

Banana on Saucer

Oil painting of a banana on a blue and white porcelain saucer.
This intergalactic fruit arrived in a flying saucer hoping to set up a banana republic.

Newham Landscape with Telephone Poles

Oil painting of eucalypts with distant telephone poles in front distant hills.
Telephone poles: to call friends in Poland.

Oil on canvas board, 8" x 10"

Derelict House with Camels Hump near Mount Macedon

Oil painting of a small derelict house with nearby trees and a distant mountain.
This painting is hardly going to bring the house down, though the house might take care of the matter itself.

Oil on canvas board, 8" x 10"

P.S. To clear up any ambiguity in the title, the house does not, in fact, have the hump of a camel--the hump is merely a geological feature depicted in the background.

Egg in Old Fashioned Glass

Oil painting of an egg inside an Old Fashioned Glass.
After setting up this still life, I thought I might have a crack (but thankfully both egg and glass were intact).

Former Butcher Shop, North Melbourne

Oil painting of a Victorian-era corner shop building with a wide verandah.
The fact this butcher shop is closed probably has much to do with the price of meat.

Paper Mill, Alphington

Oil painting of a large industrial building marked by large chimneys.
The rumour mill--amongst my fellow painters--had it that this building is set for demolition.  As it has had its marching papers, we thought it best, while it still stands, to get it down on paper (or canvas as it is here).
