Tomatoes with Biscuit Barrel

Oil painting of vine-ripened tomatoes beside an antique biscuit barrel with a flower pattern.
Some might say I'm prone to the occasional odd still life arrangement, but this one takes the biscuit (and evidently replaced it with tomatoes).

Twilight, Rosebery Hill, Pipers Creek

Oil painting of trees in late autumn with a distant blue hill in fading light.
Painting in the half-light took me out of my comfort zone, to an area I call--the twilight zone.

Plaster Cast: Bust of Costanza Bonarelli by Bernini

Oil painting of the bust of a young woman.
Though I've cast about for a good pun, I'm going to have to cast the idea loose.

Persimmon with Silver-Plated Jug

Oil painting of a persimmon beside a small silver-plated jug.

Mandarine with Small Vase

Oil painting of a mandarine beside a small blue and white Chinese-style vase.
There once was an old mandarine,
Who played quite a mean tambourine--
With a vase on the bass
They brought down the place
And left in a stretch limousine.

Riverview Hotel, Tarwin Lower

Oil painting of a building with a red pitched roof and a verandah in sunlight.
This painting was a bit of a struggle, so I'm not sure if it will pass the pub test.

Pear with Earthenware Bottle

Oil painting of a green pear beside an earthenware bottle lying on its side.
I tried to paint a bottle and a pear,
But soon it had me driven to despair--
The neck was wrong, the fruit was weak,
And did I mention bad technique?

To wit, I've found relief in simple verse,
To counter daily painting's basic curse--
That some are poor, and some are deft,
Some paintings full and some bereft.
