Manna Gum and Mount Macedon from Pipers Creek

Oil painting of a manna gum with a split trunk (one half of which is dead), with eucalpyts in the middle distance and a mountain range in the far distance.
I agonised for some time before selecting this scene because I wanted to capture the contrast between the warm foreground manna gum and the cool blue of the distant mountain range, and it was quite difficult to find a position where both were clearly visible.  That said, the beauty of painting is that I need not have gummed up the works by labouring over scene selection: I could have simply moved mountains.

Oil on canvas board, 12" x 16"
