Pear on Copper Jug

Oil painting of a green pear positioned on top of a small copper jug.
I'm not sure if this has gone pear-shaped or gone up the spout.

Old Books

Oil painting of three antique books stacked on top of one another.
By my reckoning, it was always going to be fairly straight-forward exercise to balance the books.

Copper Kettle

Oil painting of an antique copper kettle with a handle and brass spout.
It may be that a watched kettle never boils, but this picture is the result of a watched kettle endeavour in oils.

Portrait of a Woman in a Pink Top

Oil painting of a woman with shoulder-length brown hair in a scarf and a pink top.
The scarf in this profile portrait was much brighter than depicted, but I didn't want to draw too much attention away from the face; indeed, I wanted to keep a low profile.

Apple with Sauce Jug

Oil painting of a blue porcelain sauce jug beside a red and green apple.
The orchardist had branched into the manufacture of apple sauce, but having later decided to concentrate on core business, the production was outsourced.

Mandarine with Jug

Oil painting of a white porcelain jug with blue designs beside a mandarine.
Jugs and pieces of fruit are commonly depicted in my paintings, and as such, one might say that this piece is in much the same vein as many of my other works.  Additionally, due to the prevalence of jugs, one might say it's in much the same jugular vein.

Mushroom with Copper Pot

Oil painting of a brown mushroom beside a small copper pot.
According to the internet, mushrooms are high in copper; which is apparently a good thing. However, according to the coppers, getting high on mushrooms is somewhat less desirable.

Abbotsford Convent from Yarra Bend Park

Oil painting of a nineteenth-century convent surrounded by eucalyptus trees.
The smartest woman in the convent was none the wiser.

Still Life with Plaster Cast

Oil painting of a small vase, a plaster cast of a young woman's face and a liqueur bottle.
This cast is apparently taken from a death mask, which rather casts a shadow over this still but not so alive still life.

Portrait of a Bearded Man II

Oil painting of a middle-aged bearded man wearing a blue shirt.
This is the same model and the same pose I painted last week, but the viewpoint has changed by a whisker (a rather substantial whisker it should be said).

Carrot in Glencairn Whisky Glass

Oil painting of a carrot placed upright in a Glencairn whisky glass.
Carrots are an excellent source of fibre.  When consumed within a glass, they are an excellent source of fibreglass.

Willow on Merri Creek, Coburg

Oil painting of a weeping willow beside a small creek with rushes on the river bank.
Though the willow bent, the paint refused to bend to my will.

Portrait of a Bearded Man

Oil painting of a middle-aged bearded man in profile with a braided ponytail and wearing a blue shirt.
When I first cultivated a beard I wasn't sure if I liked it; but then it grew on me.

Melbourne City from Anderson Street Bridge, South Yarra

Oil painting of distant high-rise buildings with a tree-lined river in the foreground.
This painting is courtesy of my fellow painter Ken who was good enough to lend me one of his few paintbrushes after I'd spectacularly failed in the blindingly simple endeavour of bringing basic painting materials to a paint-out.  Clearly I'm daft as a brush.

Portrait of a Woman with Red Hair II

Oil painting of a young woman with dyed red hair facing the viewer.
This is the same model and the same pose that I painted the previous week, only this time from a different angle (she reposed on the same chair and re-posed).

Art Nouveau-Style Lamp

Oil painting of a doube-light Art Nouveau-Style lamp with one light illuminated.
Claude Monet is often described as a painter of light, but maybe not this particular type of light.
